From Rain to the Ropes: An Unforgettable Caddie Story
What an incredible tale we have for you this week—a story that proves opportunity can strike when you least expect it, and magic happens when the right people come together.
It all started with a simple twist of fate. Duncan Bagshaw—our resident GolfLinks caddie and the mastermind behind thecaddieexperience.co.uk—was supposed to be looping at JCB, but a last-minute cancellation left him free. Then, he spotted a post in the GolfLinks community: Stuart was heading to a Clutch Tour Pro-Am. With nothing but time and a love for the game, Duncan decided to swing by and support the group.
Little did he know, that decision would lead to one of the most memorable experiences of his caddying career.
A Chance Encounter, A Winning Partnership
At the event, Duncan struck up a conversation with rising star Alfie Halil—and before anyone knew it, he was on the bag, stepping into the role like they’d been a team for years.
And what a start it was! Day One was nothing short of electric. Alfie stormed out of the gates with a chip-in eagle on the very first hole, followed by another chip-in birdie on the second—was it Alfie’s skill, Duncan’s guidance, or a little bit of both? Either way, they finished the day at a blistering -4, turning heads and setting the stage for an epic weekend.
But golf, as we know, is a fickle game. Day Two brought brutal winds, tough breaks, and a heartbreaker on the 18th—a 190-yard 9-iron (yes, you read that right) that sailed over the green, leading to an 8 that just kept them from making the cut. Still, even in the face of disappointment, the bond between player and caddie only grew stronger.
More Than Just a Tournament
This wasn’t just about scores or leaderboards—it was about connection, trust, and the unexpected opportunities that come from being part of the GolfLinks family. Alfie has an incredible story of his own (one he’ll share with the community soon), and we’re already dreaming of having him as a guest speaker at one of our events.
As for Duncan? This experience reminded him—and all of us—why we love this game. It’s not just about the shots; it’s about the people, the stories, and the moments you never see coming.
